We are a multi-generational church of around 880 members. Our congregation represents a variety of interests, professions, and lifestyles. Though some members have been Presbyterian for many years, a large number of our congregation come from other denominational and faith backgrounds.
First Presbyterian has a reputation for our emphasis on programs for children and youth. Christian education opportunities are offered for all ages, including Biblical and related studies for adults. Our junior and senior high youth fellowships enjoy weekly meetings and opportunities to reach out to others through work trips and other mission projects.
Music is an area of strength for our church. Our youth and adult vocal and hand bell choirs enrich our services of worship along with the sounds of our magnificent Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, recently refurbished.
Mission is a hallmark of this congregation. Our congregation sponsors adult and youth work trips to the Gulf Coast to assist with hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Local involvements include the Community Table, Housing Partnerships for the homeless, and member participation in the Community Health Clinic. Our commitment to local, national, and global ministries is reflected in our generous support of mission giving through the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.
